How long does my hair need to be for extensions?

Your hair must be at least 3-4 inches in length to hold extensions properly. If it is quite short you should be prepared for the possibility of odd braids or dreads to slip, especially along the nape of your neck where hair is often shorter and thinner. With synthetic dreads I may reinforce the hold with an extra rubber band near the root. Regular maintenance visits will help to avoid any mishaps.

For human hair extensions your own hair needs to be at least 4" long so as to hide the bonds.

How long will they last?

Braids and synthetic dreads will last roughly 3 months depending on your hair type and length. However this can vary, as some people may find their hair grows much faster due to the weight of any synthetic hair added. Regular maintainance visits to tighten the extensions will ensure they last longer.

Extensions can feel quite tight to start with, and sometimes a little sore, but they will soon loosen up as your hair grows out and your head gets used to the change.

Human Hair extensions will last for 12 weeks with regular maintainence.

Is my hair suitable for extensions?

Most hair types are suitable for extensions. If you have very fine hair, or it has thinned as a result of bleaching I recommend more lightweight extensions (handmade synthetic dreads or wool).

If you suffer from Migraines, Epilepsy, neck problems, or skin conditions of the scalp - some styles may be unsuitable due to the weight. Lightweight extensions would also be suitable in this case.

Human hair extensions can be safely added to all hair, even thinning or damaged hair. This is because we are skilled hair extension consultants and can offer the best installation method suited to your hair.

Can I wash my hair with extensions in?

Yes. Full instructions on how to wash your hair with dread extensions and braids will be given to you. I recommend purchasing a braid spray as this combats itching. You can find braid sprays in our shop.

However, braids and dreads will be perfectly fine if you don't wash them. Using sprays alone will help reduce itching, but in most cases your head will begin to settle after the first 2-3 weeks and become less itchy anyway. If you choose to use braid shampoo you will only need to wash your hair every two weeks or so. You can also use your normal shampoo if you dilute it first.

It's best to let your extensions dry naturally after washing, but if you choose to use a hairdryer ensure it is on a LOW heat as most types of synthetic hair will melt when subjected to high temperatures!

Human hair extensions- again full instructions will be given to you. As your extensions are human hair they an be washed in the normal way.

How do I look after my extensions?

Regular maintainence visits will maximise the life-span of any extensions. I charge £10 an hour for braid re-tightening and will re-tighten as many rows of extensions as possible...meaning you can keep the extensions for much longer than usual. When re-tightening dreads it is often quicker and easier if the dreads are first removed completely.

Be wary of tying your hair too tight into ponytails, or putting it up too often, as this can cause slippage and result in extensions falling out.

Braid sprays will also help to reduce 'fuzziness' and help keep your braids or dreads looking neat. It is also a good idea to wrap the extensions up while you sleep (for example, by wearing a bandana), or you may wish to switch to satin pillowcases.

Human hair extensions need regular maintainence every 4-6 weeks in order to keep them looking their best. You will need to regularly brush your hair, separate the extensions at the roots with your fingers and keep your hair clean.

I want my extensions for a set date can  you do them?

I work on an appointments basis, so it's best you book early to avoid disappointment. Appointments can be made by email through the website or by phone.

How long do they take to install?

This is dependent upon style.

Can I get a refund if I'm not happy?

Unfortunately I cannot offer refunds at this time. I cannot be held responsible if extensions are not looked after properly, or you decide you just don't like you're new style. This is why a free face to face consultation is offered, so that we can can discuss your new style, maintaince, etc..it also provides the opportuinity to colour match your hair and for us to see your hair type.

I am happy to fix small problems (individual braids slipping or falling out) so feel free to contact me should this be the case as soon as possible.
